The official release of eTEK Accounting for Windows Vista is expected soon. eTEK has submitted their newest version of eTEK Accounting (Version 12.2.1) to Microsoft for certification testing for Windows Vista. The timing of Microsoft's testing process is not under the control of eTEK. Should Microsoft's certification testing be delayed for any reason beyond September 1, 2007, eTEK may choose to release their latest version based upon pending logo certification for a Microsoft Certified Windows Vista application. Greenwood Village, Colorado, April 6, 2007. After further review and consideration of numerous Microsoft Office/Access 2007 design issues, eTEK has amended their planned submission of eTEK Accounting for Windows VISTA certification. Specifically, current versions of eTEK Accounting that use Microsoft Office/Access XP and/or Microsoft Office/Access 2003, will not be submitted for Microsoft Windows VISTA certification. Instead, the company has decided to delay Windows VISTA certification pending completion of a newer version of eTEK Accounting, designed for Microsoft Office/Access 2007.

Microsoft's release of Windows VISTA and Office 2007 has created confusion in the minds of many users. While there are advantages of using Windows VISTA and Office 2007 (primarily relating to security and expanded desktop graphical user interface (GUI) capabilities), all current eTEK software, as designed for Microsoft Office/Access XP and Microsoft Office/Access 2003, run satisfactorily on Microsoft VISTA. Release of eTEK Accounting for Microsoft/Access 2007 is planned for later this year.

In response to inquiries from existing and prospective new eTEK customers, this notice summarizes the future intentions of eTEK International regarding Microsoft Windows VISTA and Microsoft Office/Access 2007. (THESE PLANS ARE PRELIMINARY AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE).

eTEK will be submitting a current version of their eTEK Accounting System to Microsoft for certification for Windows VISTA in 2007. This is not an endorsement and/or new system requirement applicable to any current or future eTEK customer. No one will be required to upgrade to Windows VISTA in order to successfully install and use eTEK Accounting. eTEK will continue to support Windows XP versions of their products for an indefinite period of time well into the future. eTEK's current systems are designed for Microsoft Office XP/2003 Pro (Access XP/2003). The company has no reason to doubt that its current systems will perform well running under the new Microsoft Windows VISTA desktop operating system; keeping in mind users will need a complete copy of Microsoft Office XP Pro (Access XP), or Microsoft Office 2003 Pro (Access 2003) installed on their Windows VISTA PC's.

In fact, eTEK will likely not release a version of eTEK Accounting for Microsoft Office 2007 any time in the near future. While eTEK's product research continues to explore potential future benefits that may exist with an Access 2007 version of eTEK Accounting, there are currently a number of technical concerns that must be resolved before eTEK will recommend Office 2007/Access 2007 to their customers. Those concerns relate to user-level security, and significant changes (with resultant loss in user productivity) in the user menu and toolbars in Office/Access 2007 when compared to recent versions of Office/Access XP and Office/Access 2003. Microsoft has replaced menus and toolbars in Office/Access 2007 with a completely new "custom ribbon" that may or may not make productive logical sense for use in open source/open database accounting applications like eTEK Accounting. Should eTEK design and release a future version of eTEK Accounting based on Microsoft Access 2007, it will likely be released as a completely new product; sold and supported as such, not as a normal upgrade option to existing customers.
