Founded in 1998, eTEK corporate offices are located in the Inverness Business Center in SE Denver. Additional offices are located in Rhode Island, Texas, Arizona, and Southern California. eTEK acquired all of the assets and trademarks of MTX International in January 1998. MTX was a 22-year-old software company that had developed one of the first true Windows-based (not derived from DOS) accounting systems released originally in 1992.  

Bill Gates featured an early version of MTX Accounting (the basis for all eTEK systems) in a specialized Windows NT-based point-of-sale retail application at COMDEX Spring '94. Later that year, that original version became the first accounting software to be certified as Microsoft Office Compatible, a feature that has since further improved and expanded significantly by eTEK, including the addition of versions designed for Microsoft SQL Server/BackOffice.  

Since eTEK was established, the company has consistently earned independent Five-Star ratings for their products in reviews published by The CPA Technology Advisor magazine. 2009 was the 8th consecutive year eTEK earned a 5-STAR rating! 

More recently, in 2008, eTEK further expanded their business to offer versions for Microsoft Office 2007/2010 and Microsofdt SQL Server as web-based Software as a Service (SaaS) subscriptions - a growing trend in the software industry given the improved performance and security of web-based business applications.
